| assuming that we are not sitting in the "mahogany row" or have an office that is sealed with a sound proof door but instead, occupying an office space that is "open-aired" with very little room for privacy, this post is dedicated to you and me. as i am sitting at my desk, which is situated nearby the copy machine and is in the main hallway where everyone, all 10 of us, passes through to get to their cubicles, i would exchange an occasional morning greeting and smile from my cohorts and that would be it, which is totally cool with me. but on the flip side, when most of my co-workers trickle in by 10 or so, the work environment starts to get a little loud. today, a relatively heavy set, bald guy comes into the office. before i even exchanged my general two-liner with him, i was already aware of his heavy stature 5 steps before his appearance with his shrek-like foot stomping. i'm thinking he's one of the managers for a company that shares office space with us... anways, as he was meeting with his folks and tending to his daily chores, his talking became more amplified. he wasn't yelling or arguing either, just talking really loudly... it got so annoying that i couldn't think. i rummaged through my bag for some tissue paper to stick in my ear or headphones to hear some tunes to distract this noise and found nothing... but nestled in a discreet corner of my laptop bag, i found my answer... a nice brand new set of earplugs! i popped those suckers in and it was all gravy from there. BUT, after shrek chatted away with his subordinates in his office, he answers a cell phone call and decides to take the call outside. BUT (yes, another BUT), on his way out, he chooses to ponder a thought and discuss it WHILE HE WAS IN FRONT OF MY DESK... HELLO? i have better things to do then to listen to you... i know i'm not a good multi-tasker so when he was in front of me, the ear plugs meant nothing. anyways, i know that there are much crappier things that happen with coworkers so i guess i'm just going to have to suck it up...

| as i was getting ready to head out for work today, i realized that i didn't do my hair right after i took a shower. this time, i let it dry and get formed by itself, which was bad. when i went back to gel up my hair, it already took a shape that was all jacked up. kinda like a mix between a bad haircut and sleeping on one side all night... although i applied more gel as an attempt to get it in the direction that i wanted it to go, it wouldn't budge, it just froze there... i would've liked to just put on a hat and go to work but that wouldn't fit under the business casual attire... sheesh, the middle part of my hair kinda looks like two waves that crashed together, creating some bi-directional wave effect. oh well, it's just work. i'm new here and i don't see two many people around anyways... i guess i learned my lesson.

| last night, we checked out bar celona in old town pasadena. i have to say that it's one of the few places that comes very close to feeling like you're in spain, without actually being there. it was pretty trippy. they even had a table outside (yep, just one) of the bar for those outdoor patrons to relive their night-out cafe excursions on los robles. and when you walk in, you are warped into spain by the saffron-yellow ambiance and spanish hospitality. as you sit down, you hear a live flamenco band playing sevillian favorites and even a few hits from cuba's buenavista social club documentary. their set-up was just like casa patas in madrid with a cajon (drum), two classical guitars and one bass guitar. in fact, they were playing scenes from this renown flamenco performance post on their projection screen right above the stage... throughout the evening, one of the more mature visitors, or perhaps the owner, decided to showcase his flamenco dancing skills with his stomping feet and flicking wrists. this particular evening's mix of young and old was definitely another element that reminded me of spains night-life of leaving clubs around 5 or 6 in the morning and still seeing elderly folks sipping on coffee or even grubbing on "chocolate con churros" next to a group of punkish teens/college students. as if it couldn't get any better, we added another component to our sounds and sight of spain with the taste of "tapas" or spanish appetizers. we tried out their sauteed mushrooms, prawns, and spanish anchovy which was garnished with olive oil and gazpacho. we then chilled our tapas with their famous mojitos. so... if you don't want to fly 16 hours but still want a little touch of spain's culture and lifestyle, call ahead to see if a band's playing and check this place out.

| dude, senioritis all the way. there's just 5 more days... it is super
tough to be motivated right now to finish my very last paper for
school. although i am writing about stuff relating to some of the work
newsong is doing in thailand, i still find myself wanting to run
outside and play instead of staying inside the library and writing that
darn paper. i kinda wished that it was gloomy and super rainy so i
would have no choice but to write. on the contrary, the weather's been
pretty nice, especially today. so, instead of fightin' the feelin, i
decided to enjoy the weather and work on my paper at one of my favorite
cafes in santa monica; it was the balance i was looking for and i got
the best of both worlds.
